My husband emailed me the following predictions for the next four years:
Chief Justice Ashcroft, Justice Rumsfeld, and Justice Rove lead majority to overturn Roe v. Wade.
Habeus Corpus is suspended and dissent is now treason punishable by death.
Invasion of Iran is successful and major military operations are completed in 3 weeks, occupation for the next 100 years.
Tactical atomic weapons are dropped on Korea.
I supplemented his list of predictions with a few of my own:
Public funding for religious propagation in schools.
Increase of the already largest deficit in our country’s history.
Unchecked power by evangelical right – with control of the White House, Congress and a stacked court.
Bigotry written into the Oregon Constitution
Economic devastation from retroactive enforcement of Measure 37 not to mention the abandonment of land-use policies that have defined Oregon as a place that “puts a premium on its farms, forests and quality of life..”
Increasingly diminishing resources for public schools and more unfunded arbitrary standards they have to design their curriculum around.
Embarrassment and isolation internationally for a diplomatic policy of unilateral, unjustified, preemptive war.
Administration sanctioned torture of foreign prisoners.
Losing more ground on clean air, water, preserved forests as policy makers from polluting industries define the “non” regulations of those natural resources for the Bush administration.
Where are we supposed to find hope?
