I always attributed this to my dad...

When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all.

Theodore Roosevelt

(Dad once told me - work hard or play hard - dont' try to do one while doing the other).

Either way, one of my favorite sentiments.

Apparantly I just unknowingly called one of my team members a penis. In Yiddish.

Lookup the word "Putz" here.

He's probably more of a bubkes. (literally 'goat droppings')

I immediately contacted my lawyer. He said: "I know what a putz means. Nice job."
If you haven't yet had a chance to hear Jamie Cullum's music, you really should. Start with "Twenty Something." I'm completely hooked. But oh my god! am I listening to, and enjoying jazz music???

Chuck and I went to three different parent teacher conferences yesterday at three different schools (Lina at THS, Charlie at East, Samantha at Liberty) and, it turns out, all three of our kids are brilliant and a pleasure to have in class!! Hooray for us!

The kids have been out of school all week. The flooding on top of previously scheduled parent teacher conference days means they are essentially housebound and all three are getting a wee bit restless. We finally sent the teenager to Canon Beach today in the rain. Chuck was heading to Astoria and is going to drop her and a friend off so that they can shop for the day.

Hundreds of homes in our community have been evacuated. Routes out of Tillamook heading North and East are blocked from high water and slides. Tillamook, in short is a mess. Here are some photos I shot today. The American Red Cross' Oregon Trail Chapter has opened a shelter at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds for displaced families.*

Despite all this, do you know what Chuck's biggest concern was this morning? He is unhappy that the folded laundry is unsorted. "Baskets that are mixed, are never very good," he said by means of a morning greeting. My daughter asked me if he was "full of baloney." Yes, honey, he is. That's where you get it.

He was also very worried about Brittany and KFed's pending divorce.

*Anyone wishing to give time or money for Red Cross disaster assistance may call 503-284-1234 or visit www.redcross-pdx.org. Note that little things mean a lot, we put our name on a volunteer list and made the shelter residents extremely happy by responding to a request for dog food for displaced pets...
