Inundated recently with the "Jesus is the reason for the Season" campaign, Samantha and Charlie were debating whether or not Jesus was alive or dead. They finally decided to come to me for the definitive answer.
"Well", I hedged, not wanting to raise my children in an entirely godless environment, thereby crippling their spirituality and cultural frame of reference - but also not sure how a self-described agnostic explains this to her kids. "The bible tells us that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he came back to life and ascended into heaven."
"He came back to life??" my daughter asked incredulously. Her simple response was: "That's not possible."
(do I get points for trying?)
